DETAILS

A few field notes.

Blackcraft evening stop: the former haunt at 259 Essex Street now houses the Haunted Warren Museum. Both entries remain on your map so your original list is preserved.

Aura photos: “witch haus” is interpreted as HausWitch at 144 Washington Street.

Bathroom: “Salem armpit visiting center” is interpreted as Salem Armory Visitor Center at 2 New Liberty Street. Indoor restroom access depends on operating hours.

Trolley: the pin marks the departure area at the Visitor Center, rather than the ticket office. Check the operator’s October boarding instructions.

Walks: Essex and Federal streets have starting-point pins; these are not navigation routes. Pioneer Village is farther south, outside the downtown cluster.

Your checklist: visited stops are saved to your signed-in account. Apple Maps links open directions; they do not automatically save pins to your Apple Maps account.

Live location & compass: tap My location to track your position, then Enable compass and allow access to show which way your phone points. Keep the phone fairly flat. The map stays north-up; the blue cone rotates. Drag the map to stop following; tap Recenter to follow again. Use × to stop tracking.

Providers: OpenStreetMap supplies map imagery and map data, Leaflet displays the map, and your device/browser supplies live location and compass readings. Live readings are not saved by this site. If you choose current location as your itinerary start, its coordinate is sent to the walking-route provider to calculate your route. Apple Maps provides walking directions when you open its links.

Journey planner: choose your must-visit stops, a start and optional finish. Walking routes and estimates come from OSRM, operated by FOSSGIS with OpenStreetMap data. Your selected waypoint coordinates are sent to that provider. Visit-order optimization minimizes walking distance; it does not account for opening hours, queue times or meal times. Large selections use a heuristic. If routing fails, a clearly labeled rough order is available with straight-line connectors.

Creator and personal notes: location notes and preferred-order edits are saved to your signed-in account, without shared editing or cross-device sync.

What’s next: finds the closest eligible stop by straight-line distance; live opening hours are not checked.
